ASEAN Foreign Ministers Summit Discuss Preparation Aspects

JAKARTA - Today, three meetings were held by ministers of ASEAN. Three meetings to discuss the aspects that will be discussed in the meeting of ASEAN heads of state May 7 tomorrow.

Three meetings include Political Security Community Council meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers meeting of ASEAN and the ASEAN Coordinating Council.

The core discussion of the ASEAN Summit preparations, Saturday-Sunday, to discuss issues of mutual concern, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa in a press conference at the ASEAN summit meeting, the JCC, Jakarta, Friday (6/5/2011).

Issues to be discussed among other things, cooperation in counter-terrorism, human trafficking, pemeecahan conflict. Also talked about developments in Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand conflict issues, as well as the establishment of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconsiliation.

Foreign Minister added that the meeting also discussed the initiative of Indonesia South China Sea border issues as well as migrant workers, democratization, and other efforts to create a more ASEAN community.

Marty also added that East Timor's membership issue was also discussed in this meeting. According to ASEAN membership application submitted by the Timor Leste submitted to the leaders of ASEAN member countries.

According to former Indonesian Ambassador to Britain, the membership of East Timor can only be decided by the leaders, not at the level of foreign ministers.
